Team  Explorer Sustainability Musical Showcase
This term Team Explorer children have been working on a musical showcase. This involved everyone singing three songs, performing a song on the recorder and individual class performances. Room 7 performed a  Maori song, Room 8 did a rap about recycling, Room 9 did a recycling song,  and we sang an awesome  song called 'Pots and Pans'.
We had to have two practices on the stage, and then on we performed  to all our parents and family. We were all  proud of ourselves and had lots of fun.

Ocean Dioramas

Room 10 have made some awesome dioramas. We have got lots of sea animals, seaweed and even an under water volcano. They were very fun and easy to make. All we had to do was simply follow the instructions.

On Monday we are going to the Rocky Shore to pick up rubbish.  We are going to have some parent helpers.  Im excited because my nana is going to be a helper.  We have learnt about some unsafe rubbish and safe rubbish.  If we find rubbish that is dangerous we do not touch it.  Someone waits beside the rubbish and the other person goes and gets a teacher or parent helper.

Yesterday in Room 10 we worked with clay for art.  We are learning to make a cloak out of clay. First we rolled the clay into a ball, then we put a hole in the middle with our thumb.  Next we had to use some tools to practice making patterns in the clay.  One thing i found out was that your not allowed to handle the clay lots or it will break and dry out.  I am looking forward to next wednesday when it is art time.

In Room 10 we have finished our cloaks they look fantastic, and they are all different which is good. We got the idea from the artist Reuben Patterson . He doesn't just paint with paint he also paints with glitter.

Not long ago Miss Dobson put up the Wall of Excellence. She puts peoples good work on it. There are three people on the wall of excellence so far. As a whole class we have been discussing the topic 'We don't know how lucky we are'. We need to remember we have a great school and a great classroom with lots of cool stuff in it. If we show respect and look after things then they will last longer and we will be able to enjoy them more. Room 10 are lucky to have Miss Dobson as are teacher.

The big green basket.

In the Team explorer common space, there is a big green basket full of goodies. They are for people that have successfully past the gold heart chart.  Inside this big green basket, are books, puzzles, magnifying glasses, marbles, vechiles and last but not least toys.

This term we are making sure we keep our common space and our classroom's super tidy.

Rock Stars reading group have recently been working very hard on an author study, during reading time. Has a small celebration of their hard work the children got to go to the Timaru District Library and share their posters and findings with the librarians. Their posters are now on display in the children's section of the library if you want to check them out. Or you can go onto the Timaru District Library website and look on the Library blog where you will find pictures of the children and their posters. Well done Rock Stars I am so very proud of you.

Nothing but a Paper Bag!

Nothing But a Paper Bag
Local girl Princess Elizabeth was outraged when a dragon destroyed her castle and burned all her clothes. Elizabeth said all she could find to wear was a dirty old paper bag."I decided to follow the dragon and get my prince back" said Elizabeth she was fuming! Police arrested the dragon after he was accused of kidnaping Ronald last Sunday!

This was a reading task (Write a newspaper article) that the Rock Stars reading group had to complete based on the shared book we read as a class

28th April 2010

Yesterday we watched a clip on You tube about ANZAC Day.  The things I saw were, a little girl holding a picture of her Grandad, and marching well in a parade. I also saw  the New Zealand flag being held by a young boy. Watching this clip gave me goosebumps because it showed nice pictures to help us remember about the soldiers.

I felt sad when I saw all the names of the people who died, I felt sorry for them. On ANZAC day I was feeling proud of the soldiers who went to war for our country.

Last week we had Mrs. Hocking come and talk to us about how to cross the road safely.
Here are some things we learnt.

1.  Look right, left, then right before you cross the road.

2.  We learnt to cross Otipua Road .
3. We learnt to cross the road by ourselves.

4. We learnt what the lights on a car mean

5. If the seatbelt is rubbing on your neck you may need a booster seat.

6. When crossing a driveway you need to check the driveway for cars and also look up the road and down the road to check no cars are coming in.
